Wren

Wrens are ever present and one of the most widely distributed passerine species in Ireland. They are busy little fellows, but often perch long enough to get ‘a fix’ on shapes. I sketch them quite a bit, often just simple gestural studies which I work up into more completed watercolours like this one. At close range, a wren in full song can pierce my eardrum, often forcing me to turn my head away. Amazing for such a tiny creature.
